Spinners fans, I salute you!!

On a day when my hopes of a Grand National win went to pot early on, I was hoping the Spinners season would last longer in what was geared up to be a very difficult and competitive game against Ipswich.

I shouldn’t have worried…

When I was growing up, playing football, it was always said ”a good big ‘un beats a good little ‘un” well, I’m sorry, but this quote obviously never made it through to basketball because Spinners absolutely dominated a team which had BIG players who wouldn’t look out of place In the Space Jam movie!!

Spinners fans….I salute you!!

After I made a bit of a big deal about the lack of noise last week I was hoping for a more vocal support. Safe to say the fans delivered!!
A certain Mr. Masser preceded to seek me out in the stand pre-game to tell me ‘I had been promoted’ to what I can only describe as….Drummer Boy haha!
I had to to lead from the front and agreed!
It clearly worked haha!
15-2 start, all going well!
Seriously? Where was the drum ALL season??!!

The fans were brilliant throughout and, as I’ve said before, it makes a difference to what’s happening on court.
The atmosphere all the way through the game was brilliant, I wish it could be like that all the time and I’m sure the players would agree.
Fair play to Ipswich who had brought a good fan base of around 40 for this game and never went quiet once. I even thank them, begrudgingly, for making me hear a noise I haven’t heard since the football World Cup in 2010…. The VuVuZela!!!!
I’m Seriously considering embracing that noise for the final! Watch this space!

I’d relinquished drumming duties at the end of the first quarter to my understudy (ha, yeah you Charlotte) and my voice was beyond repair entering the second half. I hadn’t heard it change so much and so quickly since I was around 13 years old!! Lads, u know what I’m on about haha.

Regarding the game itself, surprisingly, the result never looked in doubt. Spinners set off faster than a Roadrunner evading a Coyote and never looked back. We witnessed an awesome defensive display. And, for the second game in succession, we scored a ton of points from opposition turnovers so well done to the lads. Of course we were treated to the usual couple of dunks which always brings the same reaction from me, like a kid who’s just been told he’s going to DisneyLand!

The last second win versus Derby was brilliant. The total humiliation of London Lituanica in Leeds in the cup final was awesome. But, this game was something else, easily the best all round performance of the season. We absolutely dominated a very, very good team who only finished one place below us in the league.

I am not going to single any player out, THE TEAM were absolutely brilliant. Just bring this ‘A’ game to Sheffield next week and we will beat London Lituanica. It was so good to witness a performance of really high standard.

So, off to Sheffield next week. The drum is coming! I hope we take plenty of fans and make a hell of a lot of noise, because them boys on the court are going to need us.

F.A.O Ken Masser

For those of you that read this blog, Ken reads and approves what goes from my drafts to the website. But I will be so unhappy if he deletes any of this…

To take this small club, up through the divisions RAPIDLY, has obviously taken so much effort and time. Who would have thought that we will be playing top division basketball in Lancashire within a few years?! Yes, you will be modest and say it is thanks to the people who support you, but without your vision Ken, me, you, the sponsors and everybody else at the castle leisure centre Saturday would not be celebrating and enjoying ourselves if it wasn’t for you. I thank you personally and surely on behalf of every other fan the Lancashire spinners now have. So I will be making noise for you in Sheffield and beyond because I’m in it for the long haul!!

Ps. Ken gave me my first ever appearance for Raptors and I went 1/1 from 3 PT and we won the game by 2 points haha. Cheers Ken!
